I was very interested in the numbers as I read this article.  You put it more eloquently  than I did.  I really was amazed at the numbers and how you could count on one hand, how slowly VLE's moved in the first  200 years, but how quickly in the past 20 years!
     It also makes me think what it will be like 20 years in the future?  I believe technology is going to continue to evolve into so much more and that we can't even imagine where VLE's will be in 20 years.
    People will probably laugh at how "archaic" on line schooling was way back in 2010. (that would be the teens who would laugh, as the adults will be remembering how it was.)
